Salary : $6,309.23 - $9,148.38 MonthlyLocation : Grapevine, TXJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: BS2508-3Department: Building ServicesDivision: Building Services - AdminOpening Date: 08/22/2025Closing Date: 9/21/2025 5:00 PM Central Job SummaryJOB SUMMARY Assists in overseeing and performing commercial and residential building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing inspection activities within the City. Ensures efficiency of operations through coordination of office and field functions. Performs all plan review duties. Essential FunctionsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Reviews plans for compliance with locally adopted codes (building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), and for compliance with applicable ordinances.2. Meets with homeowners, contractors, architects, engineers, etc. regarding code issues as they relate to proposed projects.3. Answers code related questions from the public (in person, by telephone, and through correspondence).4. Conducts on site visits as needed to resolve plan review issues.5. Acts as a liaison between the clerical staff and field inspectors throughout the permit/inspection process.6. Maintains accurate and detailed project plan review files and project plan storage.7. Provides documentation and testimony before various City Boards and Commissions.8. Executes special projects as assigned by the Building Official.9. Performs duties of the Building Official in their absence.10. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.11. Required SkillsSKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES •Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.•Ability to keep up with current technology. •Written and oral communication, organizational, and analytical skills are required.•Must be comfortable working outside comfort zone with a willingness to learn.•Must be a team player who is able to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines. •Ability to provide excellent customer service including a desire to help customers regardless of their circumstance.•Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.•Ability to work irregular hours to meet deadlines. •Ability to maintain positive cooperative working relationships with employees and those contacted in the course of work.•Must be a goal oriented individual capable of responding to a variety of situations in a high-pressure environment.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS A bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or related field plus two years of experience as a Plans Examiner or Building Inspector, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.Must possess one or more of the following International Code Council certifications: Building Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Plans Examiner or Building Official. State of Texas Plumbing Inspectors License is required. Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check, credit check and have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, Ishihara vision test and functional assessment screening (Level 1).WORKING CONDITIONS While performing the essential functions of this position, there will be occasional exposure to:•Bright/dim light •Dusts and pollen•Extreme heat and/or cold •Wet or humid conditions•Extreme noise levels •Animals/wildlife•Vibration•Fumes and/or noxious odors•Traffic •Moving machinery•Electrical shock •Heights•Toxic/caustic chemicals •Other extreme hazards not listed aboveSafety equipment such as gloves, goggles, hard hats, safety vests, steel-toe boots, back support belts, and seat belts are provided and must be worn as required by department procedures and good safety practices.PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
