Location: Bay Shore
Schedule: Sunday - Thursday: 2:30pm - 10:30pm
Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities
All Assistant Behavior Intervention Specialists (ABIS) perform the following tasks:
- Perform duties of a Direct Support Professional (DSP 1 – 3) and ABIS duties to ensure supervision, protection, and care of individuals, maximizing their strengths and interests while upholding their rights and facilitating community activities.
- Lead identification, facilitation, and scheduling of community inclusion activities, coordinating resources and documenting activities.
- Support appropriate supervision levels, communicate updates, and assist in shift management to ensure safety and compliance.
- Utilize clinical knowledge of individual needs and signs of ailments to provide effective support, escalate concerns, and inform staff training.
- Stay updated on issues and needs of persons supported, ensuring programming aligns with individual plans.
- Guide program staff, modeling excellent interactions and applying person-centered philosophy.
- Implement Behavior Support Plans, understanding behavior as communication and supporting positive interactions.
- Train staff using EMOE system, providing feedback and ensuring proper data collection.
- Lead weekend staff training and support new staff development.
- Participate in developing treatment and habilitative plans, and assist with data collection and progress monitoring.
- Maintain documentation and participate in team and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Support program operations, address concerns, and escalate issues as needed.
- Complete required trainings and certifications, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
- May operate a vehicle for transportation, maintaining necessary credentials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experienced ABIS may support multiple programs, providing coverage and training across regions.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field, with at least 6 months of experience supporting individuals with I/DD or mental health needs, or
- Formal training plus 2 years of experience, or
- 4 years of direct care experience in a YAI program.
Additional requirements include knowledge of behavioral/psychiatric conditions, excellent communication skills, leadership ability, relevant certifications (SCIP-R, CPR, AMAP), physical ability to perform job duties, and a valid driver's license if required.
For BIS department roles, additional experience and travel flexibility are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active pursuit of a Master's degree in a related field, or
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, with 2+ years of I/DD experience.
Compensation: $23.10 / Hour
