Position Overview

K-State Research and Extension is seeking applications for an Extension Assistant/Associate Professor (Extension Consumer Safety Specialist). This is a joint appointment between Kansas State University and the University of Missouri, both land grant universities with a mission of education, research, and extension. The position will be based at Kansas State University's Olathe campus, focusing on animal health, food safety, and security in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

• Develop an extension program emphasizing consumer issues in food safety, including risk communication, food safety, processing technologies, management, and preservation.
• Serve as a state specialist, providing leadership in designing research-based educational programs, materials, and curricula related to food processing, preservation, and safety.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Food Safety, Food Science, Public Health, or a closely related field.
• Effective communication skills (oral and written).
• Proficiency in Distance Education Technology.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, building relationships and partnerships.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in developing and delivering food safety education.
• Knowledge of extension and program development processes, including evaluation.
• Experience in securing external funding and utilizing digital/web-based education methods.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and with external agencies.

Additional Requirements

• Valid drivers license and willingness to travel.

Work Arrangements

This position offers a hybrid work option, with on-site work approximately 2-3 days per week. Remote work is contingent upon residing within the U.S. and approved via a remote work agreement.
