Job DetailsLevel Experienced Job Location Illinois College - Jacksonville, IL Position Type Full Time Education Level Bachelor's Degree Travel Percentage Negligible The Assistant/Associate Director of Residential Life supports an effective residential life experience that promotes belonging for all students, provides learning and leadership opportunities, and ensures that the residential experience contributes meaningfully to student development. The Assistant/Associate Director assists the Director in the overall operation of the department and provides training, coaching, and advising to student staff members. Essential Functions: The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility will not preclude it from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical extension of position responsibilities.
  • Select, train, supervise, and support student residential life staff with programming and budgeting
  • Provide training and professional development to student residential life staff based on best practices in residential life and student development including strategies that aid in retention of Residential Assistants and their residents
  • Counsel and advise students with roommate conflicts, academic, and personal issues
  • Oversee and ensure the accuracy of all data in the residential life databases
  • Facilitate and manage student access to the residential facilities through the campus access control system
  • In collaboration with other Student Life personnel, address housing policy violations using a comprehensive menu of educational and developmental resources for sanctioning
  • Oversee housing needs for the summer camp and conference program in collaboration with facilities management, director of campus events, and other staff as appropriate
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis
  • Respond to emergencies and be available by phone as a resource for staff members
  • Participate in ongoing professional development pertaining to crucial components of the work
  • Serve as a student conduct hearing officer and assist with the training and facilitation of the College's student conduct board
  • In collaboration with the Director, liaise with the facilities management department in responding to building work orders and maintenance concerns
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred
  • Experience in residential life within the college setting strong preferred
  • Supervisory experience required (may include student worker supervision)
  • Strong and broad knowledge of student development theory
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating a culture of belonging for all students
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, management, and data management skills
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with multiple constituencies, including students, parents, faculty, and staff
  • Intercultural competence and the ability to interact effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds
  • Personal integrity and professionalism
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergency or unforeseen situations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to effectively address confidential and sensitive personal and academic issues
  • Understanding of and respect for the environment of a residential liberal arts college
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
