Job Description :
  • Facilitate the news gathering process and ensure comprehensive coverage of on-air and online news stories.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with other assignment desk personnel
  • Generate daily, enterprise and evergreen story ideas
  • Consistently monitor scanners, wires, internet sites and social media so not miss any critical breaking news
  • Develop and cultivate contacts within the community for news stories
  • Coordinate logistics for field crews for local coverage
  • Dispatch news crews, field producers, and reporters
  • Make front line editorial decisions on a story-by-story basis
  • Support producers by gathering new and updated information on stories
  • Communicate with newsroom and production staff on the status of coverage and stories
  • Arrange and coordinate news content and interviews for producers/talent
  • Work closely story/sweeps planning and coordination
  • Perform as back up producer as required
  • Generate duopoly story ideas

Job Requirements

Basic Qualifications• Minimum 2 years' experience as an Assignment Editor, Reporter or Producer• BA or BS in Journalism, Communications or other related field or equivalent work experience• Must be willing to work in Washington, D.C.• Must be 18 years or greater• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States• Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays• Interested candidate must submit a resume/CV through www.nbcunicareers.com to be consideredDesired Qualifications• Excellent news judgment and solid instincts• Ability to perform under tight time deadlines• Working knowledge of the Washington, DC metro area is preferred• Self-starter with excellent communication and organizational skills• Must possess the ability to problem solve, prioritize decisions and act decisively under tight deadlines• Shooting and editing skills with various editing software• Must be able to work effectively with others in a team environment• General knowledge of television news techniques, including how stories should be covered and assembled• Familiarity with web-based research• Familiarity with utilizing social media as a newsgathering tool• Solid sources in the community• Knowledge of local, state & federal court procedures• Knowledge of satellite operations and microwave systems• Understanding of emerging production techniques and technology• Competitive spirit• Spanish language skills a plus
