NOTE: APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER 11:59 PM ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 2025.SALARY: The prevailing salary for this position as established by Ordinance of the Council of the City of Cleveland is $24.57 - $26.57 per hour.EXAMINATION INFORMATIONEXPERIENCE EVALUATION: An experience evaluation consists of a quantitative evaluation of an Applicant's academic training and experience pertinent to the classification for which an examination is taken, based on the statement of experience as recorded on the candidate's application and on academic training based on required credentials.PERFORMANCE EXAMINATION: This will be worth 70% of the final grade. Applicants will be required to tie various knots and/or hitches for climbing and rigging. They will also be required to ascend an oak tree to retrieve flags from the upper canopy which will require them to wear a climbing saddle and other gear for work positioning in a tree. (Candidates must bring their own saddle and work gear). Candidates might also be required to demonstrate their skill utilizing a chainsaw. Specifics will be given when candidates are notified of the time, date, and place of their examination. Examples of DutiesDUTIESUnder supervision, performs skilled arboricultural work including planting, pruning, and removing trees. Removes dead and dangerous trees and tree stumps from City rights- 1) way, parks, and public properties. Prunes, removes, and otherwise maintains street and public trees. Uses insulated tool to remove tree parts from electrical wires in accordance with OSHA and ANSI standards. Plants trees by digging holes with shovel or approved equipment. Uses chain saws, power pole saws, and hand tools to remove and prune trees. Cleans work area. Performs emergency duties during and after storms to remove trees and branches from streets. Performs general, basic maintenance on equipment and vehicles. Follows all OSHA and ANSI safety standards. Substitutes for Arborist II as needed. Performs other job-related duties as required. Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh School diploma or G.E.D. required. Two (2) years of experience in Arboriculture or a closely related field required. Valid State of Ohio Driver's License required. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 lbs.NOTE: Minimum qualifications must be met as of the last day of the filing period unless otherwise stated.RESIDENCY CREDITIn accordance with the Ordinances of the City of Cleveland: A person who has had as his/her primary residence in the City of Cleveland for at least one year at the time of filing a Civil Service application, and desires to take an entry-level Civil Service examination, shall, if a passing grade on the written examination is attained, have ten (10) points added to his/her passing score. (NOTE: Not all Examinations consider residency credit in the scoring process) To substantiate a claim for residency points, Applicants must UPLOAD LEGIBLE COPIES of the following:? A signed and notarized Residency Affidavit available on the City's website here:VETERANS' PREFERENCEVeterans' preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans' credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant's supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service-connected disability.
