Manages the beautification division and all field operations involving trees, including pruning, removing and planting; oversees installation of irrigation systems; conducts tree inspections and provides education and recommendations regarding tree care; performs other duties as assigned.
- Manages Beautification services and support operations; develops and implements policies, procedures, goals and objectives.
- Monitors operations; reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures to assure quality work results and effective use of resources; develops plans, priorities and resource allocations for maintenance, support and repair issues.
- Reviews plans for tree planting; attends bid openings; works closely with contractor to assure proper materials and standards are being used and contract deadlines are made.
- Confers with landscape architects and developers to promote tree preservation in the preparation of construction plans and land development.
- Conducts field inspections of diseased trees.
- Manages staff and hiring procedures; plans, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; instructs and trains staff, monitors work, develops staff skills, and evaluates performance; analyzes workload trends and develops plans for staffing and assignment adjustments.
- Inspects tree related issues in the community; assesses and evaluates potential hazards related to tree inspections.
- Assists with tree plant site preparations; coordinates and assists volunteers with planting and maintain trees and sites.
- Develops and monitors operational budgets; monitors and approves expenditures.
- Coordinates with Federal, state and regional organizations and City departments to accomplish projects.
- Manages and administers contracts and maintenance of municipal parks, lawns, walking trails, cemeteries, rights-of-way, and the grounds of City buildings, recreation centers and athletic complexes. Communications and coordinates with other City departments, contractors and citizens regarding beautification activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Horticulture or related field and two years' experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
- ISA Certified Arborist and Municipal Specialist by the State of Texas.
- Work is performed inside and outside with occasional exposure to temperature variations.
- Subject to sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
