The Aquatics Operation Coordinator assists the Aquatics Director in supervising the Aquatics Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructors. This includes overseeing facility operations, coordinating program and operation schedules for the pool, managing aquatics timecards, and ensuring the training and certifications of the Aquatics Lifeguard staff are up-to-date and accurate. Furthermore, the coordinator is responsible for providing safe operations in accordance with the association's policies and standards. The Aquatics Operation Coordinator will also assist the Aquatics Director as needed in leading and developing the branch's aquatics programs and staff affiliated with those programs. This includes stepping in when needed. The Aquatics Operation Coordinator will have a minimum of 20 hours of direct service, which include but are not limited to lifeguarding, lifeguard instruction, swim instruction, or deck supervision.Job ResponsibilitiesStaff Recruitment and ManagementRecruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and managing lifeguards and lead lifeguardsReviewing staff performance and developing strategies to motivate and guide teams toward goalsProviding regular coaching and feedback to support staff developmentTracking and overseeing lifeguard certifications and scheduling additional trainingSafety and ComplianceMaintaining up-to-date staff certifications and enforcing safety standards for lifeguardsEducating staff on and enforcing Aquatics Safety Policies and ProceduresMonitoring and maintaining emergency equipment to ensure proper working conditionsOverseeing audits (daily, weekly, monthly) for equipment checks, capacity counts, drills, and complianceScheduling and Operational FlexibilityCreating and managing schedules for part-time, full-time, and seasonal lifeguardsAdjusting lifeguard schedules to meet pool capacity needs while adhering to work-hour policiesEnsuring coverage for lifeguarding or swim instruction as needed in coordination with the Aquatics DirectorTraining and DevelopmentLeading at least six lifeguarding and oxygen administration training sessions annuallyPlanning and organizing safety training courses, including instruction and registrationLeading monthly in-service training sessions for lifeguard staffAssisting with private and group swim lessons as neededProgram Promotion and Customer ServiceDelivering and promoting high-quality programming to membersProviding excellent service by addressing member concerns and escalating issues when necessarySupporting volunteer recruitment for the Annual Giving CampaignAssisting in organizing events like Safety Around Water week and summer splash campsFinancial and Operational OversightApproving and ensuring the accuracy of bi-monthly timecards for Aquatics staffCollaborating with leadership to maintain standards in safety, financial goals, and staff satisfactionEnsuring smooth facility operations in the absence of Aquatics DirectorsLeadership and Team CollaborationCollaborating with leadership to maintain safety/policy standards and achieve financial goalsProviding leadership during high-pressure situations and ensuring the safety of all facility usersLeading by example in maintaining composure and delivering excellent customer serviceOperational Flexibility and CoverageProviding coverage for lifeguarding or swim instructing as neededEnsuring availability during mornings, evenings, and weekends based on program or facility needs.Work Environment & Physical DemandsThe Aquatics Program Coordinator works primarily indoors within the pool area, with occasional outdoor responsibilities depending on program needs. The role involves spending considerable time near or in the water and may require exposure to varying temperatures and humidity levels associated with aquatic environments. The coordinator is expected to manage administrative tasks such as scheduling shifts, maintaining accurate program records, and coordinating staffing needs, all while maintaining excellent customer service in a fast-paced setting. Flexibility is required, as the schedule may include evenings, weekends, and occasional outdoor activities.The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, and moving around the pool area and office for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., assisting with setting up or moving equipment, and demonstrating swimming techniques. The coordinator must possess quick reflexes and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies in and around the water.
