We are committed to making a lasting, positive impact on the natural world.
Job Overview
If your idea of an office includes open roads, sunlit waterways, and getting your hands dirty (and your boots wetter)—you're in the right place. As our Aquaculture Supervisor, you'll lead the daily operations of our seagrass nursery, balancing scientific insight with practical problem-solving and hands-on leadership. You'll help grow what we plant—and grow the team that makes it all happen.
This isn't a back-office gig. You'll be out in the field, mentoring staff, troubleshooting systems, and using data to drive smart, scalable decisions. You'll work closely with our biology and restoration teams to make sure everything we grow aligns with everything we restore—from quantity to quality to timing.
This is a role for someone who thrives in motion and leads with clarity and care. Someone who brings both order and energy to the work. Someone who understands that restoration is equal parts logistics and love—for plants, people, and the planet. From spreadsheets to seagrass, you'll connect the dots, support a purpose-driven crew, and help turn vision into tangible environmental impact.
Location and Travel
We go where the water needs us—from the Keys to the Panhandle.
You'll travel regularly throughout Florida, often staying on-site up to four nights a week. Mileage and per diem are covered, and a reliable vehicle is required. If you thrive on movement, fieldwork, and the kind of adventure that ends with something meaningful, you'll fit right in.
Physical Requirements
Restoration work is physical work. It's also deeply rewarding. You'll spend long days outside in Florida's heat, humidity, and unpredictable weather. You'll need to:
- Be comfortable in saltwater, freshwater, and low-visibility environments
- Be a strong swimmer (SCUBA certification preferred or willing to obtain)
- Be able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs
- Confidently handle boats and trailers—or be ready to learn
- Embrace muddy boots, early mornings, and occasional chaos with humor and grit
What You Do
- Green Thumb Meets Blue Hands - Lead nursery operations—from planting and propagation to harvest and shipment. Whether you're cultivating plants or fixing irrigation lines, your hands-on leadership keeps everything growing.
- Observe + Report- Monitor plant health, water quality, and nursery conditions. Share updates that help the whole team adapt and respond in real-time.
- Schedule + Optimize- Track plant growth, inventory, and environmental metrics. Use data to troubleshoot issues, forecast needs, and streamline nursery workflows.
- Teamwork in Action- Coordinate with biology and restoration crews to ensure nursery operations align with field timelines. You're the bridge between plant production and project execution.
- Safety + Systems First - Promote and follow safety protocols while maintaining clean, efficient systems. Model best practices and expect the same from your crew.
- Lead with Heart, Clarity + Accountability - You don't just assign tasks—you set the tone. You lead with empathy, holding yourself and the team accountable. You know when to lean in and push, when to step in and support, and when to step back so others can grow.
- Player's Coach - You coach your team with clear fundamentals, structured workflows, and real-time feedback that helps the whole group succeed—not just survive. You lead in a way that earns trust and builds momentum.
- Care About the Details - Keep close tabs on plant health, maintenance, and documentation. Your systems help us scale with precision and purpose.
- Flex When Needed - No two days are the same. You'll adjust plans, solve problems on the fly, and keep things moving—even when nature has other ideas.
- Dive In + Keep Growing - Join field crews when needed for planting and monitoring. Stay connected to the full restoration process and keep your own skills sharp.
Who You Are
- Rooted in Aquaculture or Environmental Science - You bring hands-on experience in marine plant cultivation, aquaculture operations, or similar fields. You understand both the science and the systems with both the educational credentials and field work to support.
- Technically Fluent - Spreadsheets, tracking, KPis? No problem. You're comfortable using data to guide decisions, create clarity, and drive continuous improvement.
- Builder of Teams, Not Just Tasks - You lead with both heart and structure. Your team knows you care—and they also know what's expected. You create clear roles, consistent rhythms, and accountability that fosters growth.
- Hands-On, Heads-Up Leadership - You coach in real time, adjusting your approach based on what your team needs: a push, a hand, or space to figure it out. You bring a balance of intuition, presence, and experience that earns respect and builds results.
- Physically Ready - You're capable of doing the physical work—lifting, hauling, planting—and you bring endurance and enthusiasm to outdoor challenges.
- Detail-Oriented + Systems-Minded - You spot what others miss. You enjoy creating structure, refining processes, and keeping operations running smoothly.
- At Home in the Water – Water isn't just part of the job—it's part of who you are. Whether it's boating, trailering, fishing, snorkeling, or diving, you're as comfortable on the water as you are on land. It's second nature
- Adventure-Ready - You thrive in the field, adapt to changing conditions, and keep your cool (and your sense of humor) when plans shift.
- Team-Focused - You believe great work is never done alone. You value every crew member and support a culture of collaboration and shared success.
- Safety-Minded- You follow safety best practices and encourage your team to do the same. CPR/First Aid certification is a plus—or a commitment you're ready to make.
