Appraiser - Personal Property G117 - City of Columbus Georgia : Job Details

This position is responsible for appraising and assessing all personal property within Muscogee County in order to establish a tax digest. An incumbent in this position may be designated Appraiser I - Personal Property , Appraiser II Personal Property or Appraiser III Personal Property.Assists in processing all personal property tax reporting forms filed by taxpayers to determine the proper valuation and accuracy for the county tax digest. Responds to taxpayer questions and concerns. Maintains aircraft files; reviews the FAA Web site and airport hanger lists for discovery of new accounts or changes in ownership. Processes mid-year heavy equipment purchases. Reviews and settles taxpayer appeals. Prepares cases to be passed to the Board of Equalization. Assists the Division Chief in training. Reviews applicable changes in state tax codes and the Appraisal Procedure Manual; attends classes for state Department of Revenue certification.
