So, even if you feel that you're close but not an exact match, we encourage you to apply.OverviewThe Applications Development Manager is part of a divisional IT team based in Rolling Meadows, IL for Gallagher's North America retail brokerage division. The team develops enterprise caliber software applications on the Microsoft .NET platform. The team is led by managers and directors with software development backgrounds and strives to use modern practices and technologies to develop software the right way. There is a dynamic team environment that encourages collaboration among developers to make the whole team better.The manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key business stakeholders to understand their IT priorities. The manager will direct and manage the day-to-day activities of a team of senior developers that will build and maintain the applications to meet the business priorities. This role will also be responsible for the support of every application in the production environment.How You'll Make An Impact
- Ability to effectively manage staff and to direct, evaluate, coordinate, or support the work of others involved in the implementation of information programs and systems
- Ability to engage in long-term strategic planning and provide framework for flexible day-to-day support for effective and reliable information systems
- Develops and authenticate application related business continuity plans
- Under general direction, participates and formulates technical planning per system scope and objectives
- Interacts with key business individuals to understand business issues and goals
- Operationally troubleshoots complex issues, coordinates integration of various modules and ensures compliance with expected quality standards
- Follows industry best practices for agile software development
- Regularly provides coaching, guidance and training to team members of varying experience
- Plans, schedules, and ensures timely delivery of large projects
- Functions under broad supervision
- May lead indirect project staff
- Ensures compliance with IT Policy and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
- Some after-hours system related work (code rolls, upgrades, maintenance) is required
- Responsible for managing application releases and deployments
- Ability to produce and maintain necessary documentation
About You
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems or related degree
- 10 years related experience on the Microsoft .NET platform, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
- 5 or more years of experience leading and managing a team of 5 or more developers
- Competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities.
- Experience producing detailed project schedules and resource requirements
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills - must be comfortable speaking and writing to C-level audiences, as well as technical audiences
Preferred
- Experience within the following core set of technologies:
- Development experience in C#, .NET, ASP.NET, Entity Framework, and ASP.NET MVC
- Experience configuring, developing, and integrating applications within Salesforce Financial Services.
- Web development experience with RESTful web services, Web API, JavaScript, JQuery, and CSS
- Proficient in OO design and common development design patterns such as factory, repository, singleton, inversion of control (IoC), and strategy
- Relational database experience, including Microsoft SQL Server and Snowflake
- Stored procedures, T-SQL, temp tables, transactions, database performance tuning
- Experience with Azure DevOps: repository (TFS/GIT), boards (track work), and pipelines (build solutions)
- Experience with automated build and deployment processes (Octopus, Azure DevOps release management)
- Third party presentation controls such as Telerik
- Azure experience
- Proven ability to independently manage tasks and priorities, accurately estimate work and meet mutually agreed upon deadlines
- Solid understanding of systems development and project delivery life cycle
- Strong applications analysis and issue resolution (troubleshooting) skills
