Job Summary:
The Center for Human Reproduction is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Andrology and Endocrinology Technician to join our dynamic laboratory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures in both the andrology and endocrinology laboratories, contributing directly to patient care in the areas of reproductive health and hormonal disorders. This role requires a strong understanding of laboratory principles, excellent technical skills, and a commitment to accuracy and quality.
Shift: Full time (may consider part-time), rotating weekends and holidays
Citizenship/visa status: US citizen or permanent resident
Salary: $50K-60K, based on experience
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine semen analyses, including sperm count, motility, and morphology according to established protocols and quality control procedures.
- Prepare semen samples for assisted reproductive technologies (ART) procedures such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF).
- Perform sperm cryopreservation and thawing procedures, maintaining accurate records of storage and retrieval.
- Shipping, receiving and disposition of frozen samples.
- Conduct various endocrinology assays on biological samples (e.g., blood) using automated analyzers and manual techniques.
- Perform quality control procedures on laboratory equipment and reagents, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshoot basic instrument malfunctions, and perform routine maintenance.
- Accurately document all procedures, quality control data, and test results in electronic and/or paper records.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety regulations, including the proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering supplies, and maintaining adequate stock levels.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development and revision of laboratory protocols.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other laboratory staff regarding test results and any relevant issues.
- Assist with patient preparation and instruction for sample collection as needed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a clinical laboratory setting, preferably with experience in andrology and/or endocrinology.
- Familiarity with semen analysis techniques and ART procedures is highly desirable.
- Experience operating and maintaining automated immunoassay analyzers and other laboratory equipment.
- Strong understanding of quality control and quality assurance principles in a laboratory setting.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in data entry and laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow established protocols and procedures meticulously.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP or equivalent is highly desirable but not required.
