RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

GSAM is seeking a candidate for the position of Portfolio Manager (PM) in the Insurance Fixed Income team. The candidate will focus on the management of fixed income investment portfolios for insurance companies, supporting GSAM's team of Senior Insurance PMs.

GSAM's Insurance Asset Management team is an industry leader in the management of the investment portfolios of life and health, P&C and reinsurance companies. GSAM has a dedicated global insurance business including an insurance fixed income management team, a relationship management team and an insurance strategy team. Members of the team are based in New York, London, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and Asia.

Job Summary & Responsibilities (External), Basic Qualifications, Preferred Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Private Placement Transaction Origination
    • Perform investment analysis and credit evaluation including financial modeling, company research, industry evaluation, and covenant analysis. Formally document research in credit memorandum for peer evaluation. Present investment opportunities to Credit Committee. Relay deal specifics to Senior Insurance PMs for allocation decisions.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with Agent Banks to originate and evaluate Private Placements opportunities in the corporate, REIT, CTL, sports, and university sectors.
  • Portfolio Management
  • Track financial performance , industry trends, and regulatory changes of portfolio companies. Monitor covenant compliance of required terms. Prepare credit summaries for annual portfolio reviews.
  • Maintain dialogue with Issuers, attend management meetings, and negotiate covenant and waiver requests.
  • Drive new business initiatives by analyzing prospective client portfolios, completion of request-for-proposal documentation in addition to providing broad support to Sales and Client Relationship Management teams.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, highly motivated, goal oriented, and highly quantitative. The candidate should possess experience in client-facing fixed income portfolio management, have a proven track record of responsibility and attention to detail, have extensive analytical skills, and will be capable of dealing with complex portfolio situations under time pressure.

  • Bachelors in Math, physics, hard sciences, computer science, engineering; economics or finance considered with strong quantitative background
  • Other backgrounds considered based on ability to demonstrate quantitative skills
  • 5+ years of experience in private placement fixed income or related field, specific insurance industry experience in addition to a CFA is a plus
