Job Description Weight Room Specialists are responsible for the daily operations of the Cardiovascular/Resistance Training(CRT) areas at Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center including but not limited to providing a safe exercise environment; assisting patrons; enforcing policies; cleaning and organizing fitness equipment. Shifts include early morning, afternoon, evenings and/or late evenings during the week and weekend. A Weight Room Specialist must be certified in CPR/AED or become certified within four weeks after being appointed. Duties will include but are not limited to the following: 50% Risk Management
- Monitor all fitness areas mitigating risk of injury or damage to facility or equipment.
- Enforce policies and procedures.
- Pick-up and organize weight plates, cable accessories, dumbbells, etc.
- Ensure participants use proper technique when utilizing fitness equipment.
- Ensure emergency door is not blocked by participants working out.
- Spot lifts for participants.
- Implement emergency action procedures as needed.
- Obtain and maintain proper CPR/AED certification.
25% Cleaning Responsibilities
- Pick-up and sort dirty towels; fold clean towels; and replenish towel stations with clean towels.
- Refill bottles with disinfectant solution.
- Hourly cleaning duties of all cardiovascular/resistance training equipment as assigned.
15% Customer Service
- Answer participant questions such as utilizing fitness equipment.
- Assist participants with use of lockers and ensure they are unlocked for use.
- Knowledge of various exercises for different muscle groups.
- Ability to demonstrate use of cardiovascular/resistance training equipment.
10% Other
- Substituting shifts when available.
- Report repair and maintenance requests.
- Use two-way radio.
- Complete daily shift reports and incident and accident reports as needed.
- Turn on/off TVs.
- Required to attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Other duties as assigned.

Experience using cardiovascular and resistance training equipment including selectorized machines, plate loaded machines and free weights. Excellent communication skills as evidenced by application materials/interview. Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working in a recreation center, weight room, health club or gym setting. Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health or related major. Self-starter and takes initiative as demonstrated in the application materials. Excellent verbal and written communication as demonstrated in the application materials. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or be enrolled in summer session or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.
