This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and may work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.
Our Air & Water Quality Control Environmental Field Specialist position exists to develop, direct, and conduct air and water quality field studies, research, as well as other environmental monitoring, and sampling investigations so that highway construction projects comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Examples of work tasks include:
- Conducting water, air, and soil quality sampling throughout the state so that the desired data can be obtained, evaluated, and appropriately applied
- Updating existing databases.
- Researching approved materials.
- Maintaining, updating, and revising environmental documentation.
- Servicing, calibrating, maintaining and repairing air and water quality monitoring and sampling equipment so that the appropriate equipment is available for field installations, operates properly when installed in the field and produces accurate result.

Here are the Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of professional experience in the areas noted below:
NOTE: A Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science or public health substitutes for one year of professional experience.
- Experience with proper soil, water, and air sampling methods using applicable Minnesota Pollution Control Agency/Environmental Protection Agency (MPCA/EPA) standards.
- Experience with database and data management sufficient to maintain, update and revise information databases and create spreadsheets in order to compile and report on relevant data.
- Experience with data collection, research and analysis sufficient to assist with business management and/or measurement of operational effectiveness.
- Valid driver's license
