The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As an AI / Machine Learning Engineer, you will develop technologies in the areas of machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, and/or computer vision that create new opportunities for 3M and will develop digital products and solutions capitalizing on 3M's unique materials, advanced technologies, and global reach. At 3M, we analyze data, create algorithms, and develop real-world solutions for many industries including consumer, industrial, worker safety, transportation, semiconductor, and electronics.

Leveraging expertise to develop and lead new data analytics technologies for product development or manufacturing systems, supporting existing products and exploring new growth opportunities.Collaborating with global teams to implement impactful solutions across diverse markets.Initiating and contributing to the analysis and development of intellectual property, publishing internally and externally, and presenting at conferences.Working with cross-functional research teams to build capabilities and applications for emerging challenges.Analyzing data, developing algorithms, and deploying solutions based on real-world data.Understanding, developing, and guiding the establishment of new computational tools and systems.Your Skills and Expertise
To succeed in this role from day one, 3M requires:
- Master's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in Data Science or Data Analytics in a private, public, government, or military environment.
- At least 3 years of experience developing new technology and/or products in a similar environment.
Additional qualifications that can enhance your success include:
- Ph.D. or post-doctoral fellowship in relevant fields from an accredited university.
- Technical leadership experience of a development team.
- Training/experience in deep learning, machine learning, computer vision, AI, statistics, and related areas.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, C, C++, Java, or R.
- Experience with Azure and AWS cloud services and data analytics tools.
- Ability to handle ambiguity and adapt to new information.
- Domain knowledge in physics or chemistry related to machine learning.
- Evidence of scientific excellence through publications and presentations.
