Salary: $15.00 - $22.89 Hourly Location : Recreation Center, AL Job Type: Temporary Job Number: 202400108 Department: Expect Excellence Opening Date: 07/24/2025 Description Recreation Leader I - Expect Excellence After School CounselorWork Schedule: Monday-Friday 2:30pm-6:00pmFLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Department: Expect Excellence Salary/Grade: 4 Reports to: Expect Excellence Early Elementary Coordinator/Assistant Program Director Job Summary The Expect Excellence Counselors are responsible for leading and assisting in programs and experiences for small groups of upper elementary age children in grades 3rd through 6th grade. Ideal employees would be mature persons with experience in sports, music, dance, arts and crafts, recreation games, etc. Counselors are responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. Camp Counselors will fully engage in programs and assist instructors to provide high quality educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on academics, arts and athletics. Responsibilities may include front desk work and driving vans for field trips. Supervisory responsibilities School aged children. Essential functions:
  • Assist in facilitating a variety of small and large group activities each week.
  • Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
  • Communicate with the Program Administrator about participant's experiences and report concerns including identifying and responding to camper behavioral issues.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for campers' safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Maintain control of assigned small groups and fully participate during program time while instructors are facilitating a specific program
Qualifications: Education and experience:
  • Upon hire, completion of First Aid and CPR certification. (Classes provided, not required)
  • Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Possess a Valid Driver's License.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or its equivalent.
