Function of Position:

Under the supervision of the Inspiring Start Coordinator, the Student Advocate will be responsible for the onboarding and case management of students in the Inspiring Start program.

*This is a full-time grant-funded temporary opportunity that may renew yearly. This opportunity is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Onboarding Students into Programs:

+ Work with Admissions on student referrals for the programs

+ Conduct intake of applicants

+ Assist students through the placement and registration processes

Case Management:

+ Track student progress to goal achievement

+ Refer to community resources

+ Connect students to on-campus resources

+ Work with college systems and software to manage caseload

+ Advise students' academic and non-cognitive needs

+ Conduct and coordinate workshops

+ Transition students to the next academic step of their path

+ Communicate with faculty and coordinate interventions for academics, behaviors, and attendance

+ Respond to Starfish flags

+ In concert with students, develop realistic career and education goals and plans

Other:

+ Report on the persistence, retention, and completion objectives of students in the programs

+ Meet weekly with faculty to discuss student progress

Secondary Functions:

+ Performs additional duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

+ Earned Bachelor's in social work, human services, education, psychology/counseling, or related field.

+ Experience advising or counseling underrepresented students

+ Adept at learning new technologies

+ Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends and at all campus locations

+ Experience in higher education, education, human services or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Master of Social Work, licensed counselor

+ Two years advising or counseling underprepared students

+ Understanding of trauma-informed practices

+ Knowledge of the mission of community colleges

Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $42,000 to $45,500 and is based on these mentioned factors.
