$60,431.00 - $84,603.00

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSEProvides strategic leadership and vision for student advising within the School of Arts and Sciences & Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Science by cultivating relationships with campus partners, as well as with employers and alumni to deepen partnerships and develop opportunities for students and alumni. This position is responsible for programmatic and resource development, implementation and evaluation, as well as advising services to support students' career exploration, professional development, and experiential learning. This position strategically works with the academic advising and other designated offices to evaluate program support while engaging partners across campus to provide these services as well as educate students on the career development process and opportunities that exist. This role will be leading the consulting, finance, sales and operations career community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Advises students and selected groups of alumni in individual appointments, walk-in advising and small groups about exploring career and education options, developing effective experiential learning, job search and graduate and professional school search strategies.
  • Assists students in exploring career options and identifying sources of experiential education to further learn about careers and industries of interests and develop necessary skills/knowledge.
  • Develops, contributes and updates career exploration and development information on web site.
  • Utilizes virtual technologies and resources in the delivery of service to students as appropriate, such as web sites, on-line surveys, blogs, podcasts, etc.
  • Stays current on changing economic, labor conditions and industry trends.
  • Provides advising, counseling, coaching sessions to students to assist with professional development and job/internship search strategies. Uses career assessment results as necessary.
  • May supervise advising staff.
  • Trains, evaluates and provides work direction and problem-solving assistance for staff members.
  • Provides leadership for, coordination of and/or assistance with various office-wide initiatives and projects in line with strategic plan.
  • Serves on various cross-functional teams to promote vision and direction.
  • Contributes to the strategic planning to evolve center services and programs.
  • Develops understanding of the needs and user experience of students directly and indirectly served or impacted by initiative or priority area.
  • Serves as liaison to designated stakeholder populations.
  • Assesses and meets the needs of stakeholders and promotes collaboration.
  • Conducts assessment of student needs and engagement in collaboration with leadership to identify trends and implications for services and programming.
  • Makes subsequent recommendations to department leadership for changes and improvements.
  • Develops and delivers a variety of programs and initiatives in line with UR program offerings and efforts.
  • Engages and facilitates staff trainings on engagement and evaluate staff needs and preparation in serving students.
  • Serves as strategic liaison and point of contact strategic initiative.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with external and internal stakeholders, including faculty/staff, alumni and other campus units. Liaises with designated academic departments and University departments to assess and meet the needs of academic stakeholders and promote collaboration across departments and majors by focusing on exploratory or industry-specific programming.
  • Devises and implements strategy in conjunction with employer and alumni connections for assigned areas with the goal of preparing students to enter those fields.
  • Engages and involves alumni and industry professionals to participate in programs/events, as well as learn industry content information relevant to student preparation.
  • Serves on College/University committees as assigned.
  • Represents the University and the career center in local and national professional associations and conferences to stay current with industry standards and changes, revise programs to reflect trends and increase the center's visibility among professionals in the field. Participates in University committees providing representation of the career center on community issues.
  • Plays an active role in the collection of assessment data that serves as a driver for strategic decisions.
  • Develops content and conducts informational sessions on a variety of topics, including self-exploration, résumé writing, interviewing, internship/job search strategies, networking tactics, ethics in the workplace and graduate/professional school preparation.
  • Works with key stakeholders to create career/industry and employment specific events and workshops that facilitate student learning and skill development.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations for various campus stakeholders.

Other duties as assigned.MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in business development, career education/services, development/advancement, recruitment/HR or other closely related area preferred
  • Project management experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at UR required
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally in the office environment and to interface with a wide array of stakeholders within our campus community required
  • Ability to embrace and drive change and to organize and effectively manage multiple priorities, programs and projects required
  • A growth mindset to planning and solving required
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication competencies (written, verbal, intercultural) required
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and developing positive relationships, partnerships, and alliances required
  • Awareness of trends within higher education, career services, employment marketplace and economy required
