The Advanced Process Controls and Automation Engineer will be responsible for identifying, prioritizing, executing, and supporting APC applications across multiple gas processing facilities. Additionally, this role will help strengthen the Advanced Process Controls Network for Phillips 66 Midstream by developing best practices and training site operators on utilizing Advanced Control and Optimization applications. The position is based in Houston or Denver and reports to the Manager – Operations Technology, Automation, and Systems within the Midstream Center of Excellence.
Responsibilities May Include:
Partnering with process engineering and site operations to identify, develop, and execute APC applications.Maintaining and ensuring the benefit sustainability of APC applications at multiple gas processing facilities.Providing consulting services, including training and operational support, to improve application utilization.Developing and implementing best practice standards for APC, multi-unit optimization, and inferential predictor applications.Traveling to sites as needed for application implementation and maintenance.Preparing and issuing quarterly and annual progress reports with key performance metrics.Supporting and troubleshooting interfaces with base process control systems.Consulting with operations and engineering teams to improve operations and reliability.Vetting software updates from vendors and assisting with software upgrades.Participating in peer reviews of APC and process control systems.Discovering, selecting, and implementing new technologies and practices for Advanced Control and Optimization.Required Qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Valid driver's license.
- At least 3 years of experience in multivariable process control and optimization.
- Willing and able to travel up to 30%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge of gas processing, process units, interactions, and business drivers.
- Experience with process control techniques, including advanced control design and tuning.
- Process knowledge in Natural Gas Cryogenic processes.
- Experience with Distributed Control Systems.
- Familiarity with APC and Optimization software such as Aspen DMC+/DMC3, Honeywell Profit Suite, Aspen GDOT, Schneider Electric ROMEO, etc.
- Experience with communication interfaces between APC and DCS like Schneider Electric Foxboro, Emerson Delta V, Honeywell Experion.
- Knowledge of machine learning tools like Python and R for data analytics and process control.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Trustworthiness and ability to develop and maintain trust within Phillips 66 and with partners.
- Strong commitment to safety.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Compensation
The base pay range is $141,000 – $168,000, depending on experience and education.
