Role and Responsibilities

This is an advanced level position involving specialized field work. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, performing advanced test procedures with minimal supervision, equipment calibration and operation, analysis of test data, preparation of detailed reports and correspondence, preparation of samples for testing; test data logging into the appropriate reporting applications, and communicating and coordinating with project and contractor personnel. The ideal candidate will have previous laboratory and field work experience related to highway transportation materials, knowledge of laboratory and field safety procedures, effective communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment, and skilled in the use of computers and computer software including Microsoft Office and database programs. This temporary field operations position will be working with the Chemistry Laboratory in the evaluation of pavement marking materials. The anticipated duration of this position is September through November.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares, fabricates, and manages material samples required for testing
  • Performs laboratory testing on traffic control materials in accordance with associated test methods
  • Assists with the planning and executing of laboratory investigations of traffic control materials
  • Conducts and documents the calibration and maintenance of equipment
  • Analyzes and records data in the appropriate database
  • Performs calibrations and verifications of assigned equipment on schedule
  • Drives FDOT vehicles to project sites and as test equipment
  • Requires ability to routinely lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Work may be required on weekends and after regularly scheduled hours
