Job Location : Bismarck,ND, USA
Part time position. Works an average of 12 hours per week. Scheduled hours are Wednesday afternoons 12-4pm, Friday afternoons 12-6pm, and rotating weekend shifts. This part-time position is responsible for providing direct assistance to the public at the Adult Information Desk, and assisting with carrying out Adult Services Department operations, assigned tasks, and special departmental projects. Hourly pay $17.57.

Four-year college degree preferred. Previous work experience dealing with the public preferred.

Must be able to understand and relay library policy information. Must be able to multi-task and work under busy conditions that may cause stress. Must be able to make change quickly and accurately. Must be able to resolve complaints through careful negotiation and flexibility to fulfill the spirit of library policies without causing unwanted client/user dissatisfaction. Must be able to work afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends. Must have an outgoing personality and ability to assist patrons in a friendly, confident, and self-assured manner. Must be able to listen to patrons, accurately determine their requests, and assist them accordingly. Must be familiar with the library's online catalog and associated databases in order to assist the public with their use. Must be familiar with assorted types of equipment including, but not limited to, typewriters, computers, printers, microfilm readers, and photocopiers. Must be able to push a fully-loaded book cart, shelve books/magazines to a height of 6 feet and lift up to 25 pounds at a time. Must be familiar with the Dewey Decimal System and be able to alphabetize for the proper reshelving and/or retrieval of books, periodicals, etc. Must be able to relate to and work as a team player with the other members of the Adult Services department and general library staff. Must carry oneself with an attitude of professionalism and integrity with all library stakeholders, including the general public and fellow library employees. Must support public libraries as necessary institutions that uphold the right to diverse flow of information, ideas, and intellectual freedom. Must affirm and uphold the Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read Statement (American Library Association, first published 1953), and oppose efforts to censor or remove material from the library. Must adhere to the Library's Dress Code Policy and maintain proper personal hygiene.
