ELL Teacher/Coordinator Qualifications & Skills
Possesses a bachelor's degree or higher in English, ESL, linguistics, bilingual education, or a closely related degree, and a valid Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification, as per Mi Dept. of Labor and Workforce development policy. Prior experience working with adults in an educational setting is preferred. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of student information. Skillfully provide support to students learning English. Proficiency in following instructional plans utilizing best practice instruction strategies and curricular resources Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with teachers and staff. Ability to build positive relationships with students. Strong organizational skills for managing instructional materials and student records. Ability to manage time effectively. Dependability and punctuality. Duties and Responsibilities - Plan and provide English instruction to limited English proficient adult students
- Schedule students in appropriate levels of instruction and clearly communicate the schedule with all stakeholders, including students and district staff
- Develop and implement instructional lessons based on student's proficiency using content standards
- Maintain accurate data and student records.
- Participate in quarterly meetings with L.E.O. (Labor and Economic Opportunity) regional group in Kalamazoo.
- Participate in budgeting planning and meetings with District Personnel.
- Complete needs assessments and program evaluations in a timely manner in accordance with grant timelines
- Provide ongoing, constructive feedback to students regarding progress and areas for improvement
- Schedule and work collaboratively with outside employment counsellors and community agencies to ensure students have the necessary resources and communication skills to pursue employment in Michigan
- Participate in professional development to maintain professional certifications
- Ability to use MAERS (Michigan Adult Education Reporting System) to enter accurate program and student data
In-person attendance in Kalamazoo at the Region 8 Adult Education Providers meetings is required from 9am-12pm on 10/06/25, 12/08/25, 03/02/25, and 05/04/2025. Program Dates: August 25 - May 29, 2026; Monday - Thursday from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. (144 days) Deadline to Apply: August 12th or Until filled
