Job Title
Responsible for timely and accurate patient registration. Interviews legal guardian for all pertinent account information and verifies insurance coverage.

Minimum Work Experience: 6 months to 1 yr related experience preferred. Medical office experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Good communication, organization, task planning and the ability to use a computer and various office machines are needed. Must be able to meet the active demands of alternately sitting, standing, walking and moderate to heavy telephone duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Possesses the knowledge and abilities to manage the registration process to meet the organization's expectations.
- Answers telephone and takes reservations, assigning patients to rooms according to hospital policies and patient requirements, and pre-registers patients into the system to expedite their admission process.
- Interviews/identifies legal guardian to obtain necessary information to ensure account is complete and accurate. Verifies insurances and obtains precertification/authorizations as needed. Ensures all necessary signatures are obtained for treatment. Scanning all necessary papers according to policy to make the registration complete.
- Monitors fax server throughout complete shift to ensure all patients have been identified and indexed into the system.
- Documents on accounts properly. Any change with any account will require a note posted to document stating what was changed and who said to do it. Notes will be appropriate and will be of a nature they could be shared as a legal document submitted for legal action or to the family should they request all records.
- Standards for greeting families for a registration: Smile to make the family feel welcome; Introduce yourself to the family and explain that you are here to do registration process only; After the interview, ask the family if there is anything else we can do for them today.
- Maintains Patient Confidentiality.
- For Safety Reasons: Ask for identification of persons giving patient information to ascertain who is guardian of child; Show the adult/guardian the armband of patient to verify that the patients name is spelled correctly and the date of birth is correct; Armband all patients unless child has behavioral or emotional disorder which will not allow for registrar to touch the patient.
- Maintains professional composure and confidence during stressful situations.
- Maintain confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times as observed by management and peers.
- Patient/Family complaints are handled in a confidential, timely and professional manner. Always ends conversation with family after a complaint or dispute with is there anything else I can do for you today? as observed by management.
- Continuously displays a can do attitude within the department and across department lines to contribute to the overall focus on service excellence at the hospital.
- Identifies problems, offers solutions, and communicates with Management as needed.
- Willingly accepts any other assignments that may be requested.
- Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
Physical Requirements:

- Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 1-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending, and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
