Administrative Specialist II

The Prince George's County Planning Department of The Maryland National-Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking an Administrative Specialist II to join our planning team. This position will serve as executive assistant to the Planning Director or designee.

The successful candidate will be highly organized and proactive in providing support to the Planning Director or designee. This role is pivotal in ensuring the Director's and Executive Leadership Team's day-to-day operations run smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator, problem-solver, and multitasker who is successful at building relationships, ensuring efficiency, and being a team player. This position will also manage some procurement and financial matters for the Planning Director's Office.

The Prince George's County Planning Department provides land use planning for the physical development of Prince George's County, Maryland. As the second most populous county in Maryland, Prince George's has a population of approximately 900,000 residents with 15 Metro Rail Stations and is home to the University of Maryland at College Park, National Harbor, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and a world class parks and recreation system. Prince George's County has 27 municipalities, from rural to urban communities, with a land area of approximately 500 square miles. Examples of Important Duties
  • Manage the calendar and provide meeting support for the Planning Director and the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Manage information flow for the Planning Director and the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Prepare and refine correspondence and manage communications on behalf of the Planning Director and the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Prepare confidential materials for Executive Leadership and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist the Planning Director's Office with logistics for special projects and special events.
  • Assist in recruitment activities for the Planning Director's Office.
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding of employees in the Planning Director's Office.
  • Monitor timecards for the Planning Director's Office.
  • Assist with procurement and other financial matters in the Planning Director's Office.
  • Assist with performance management and confidential personnel matters in the Planning Director's Office.
  • WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING:

    The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have strong analytical and critical thinking skills, possess outstanding communication skills, and be proactive. In addition, they must be independently engaged in the work program and highly dependable.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Attention to detail, and experience in human resources and procurement matters.
    • Experience with executive level or large-scale administrative support.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
    • A desire to serve the public, collaborate with other agencies and departments.
    • The ability to cope effectively with change, be flexible, and shift gears comfortably.
    Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Finance, Business or any related field.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in human resource management, finance or any other related field of business administration.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 6 years.

    Classification Specification Administrative Specialist II Working Conditions

    Works in an office setting; may work outdoors briefly on an incidental basis. Work is primarily sedentary and requires very light to light physical effort. May be subject to various job demands such as high volume of work and tight deadlines.

    The M-NCPPC offers a competitive salary range of $60,849-$107,768 annually (salary is commensurate with education and experience) at the Administrative Specialist II level with excellent benefits including generous leave, extensive health coverage, deferred compensation plan, and employee pension plan.

    The Prince George's County Planning Department is conveniently located in Largo, Maryland near Metro and I-495.
