Position serves as the initial point of contact for clients seeking benefits and/or services. Duties include understanding and explaining basic benefit program information, making appropriate referrals, assisting clients with applications, and researching necessary information. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties necessary to deliver services to customers and citizens may be assigned.

When assigned to Benefit Programs:

  • Analyzes needs and coordinates resources to support families/clients.
  • Serves as point of contact for clients.
  • Assists clients with completing applications and performs initial screening of applications.
  • Assesses and makes appropriate referrals to internal and external resources as needed.
  • Researches databases (local and state agencies) to verify information needed for processing applications and attaches documentation to applications.
  • Copies documents for case files.
  • Maintains logs and records, forwarding data to appropriate staff.
  • Performs data entry regarding case files.
  • Updates databases, client files, and automated records as needed.
  • Schedules appointments for clients to meet with staff.
  • Provides information about programs.
  • Prepares periodic, special, and other reports for statistics.
  • Performs clerical functions such as managing phone calls, visitors, and correspondence.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Additional duties include:

    • Other duties to support service delivery to citizens.
    • Participation in emergency operations and special assignments during unusual situations or declared states of emergency.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Qualifications:

    Education and Experience:

    Requires an Associate's degree in a business-related field and at least 2 years of experience in public administrative support, preferably with a diverse population. An acceptable combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, and other eligibility determination software. Must pass criminal background and Child Protective Services checks.

    Possession of a valid Virginia drivers license with an acceptable driving record is required.

    Must complete IS100 and IS700 NIMS training within 90 days of employment. Higher levels of NIMS training may be required as appropriate.
