DescriptionGENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:This is part-time, administrative work requiring clerical knowledge and skill to assist and support the Sanitation and Environmental Services Department. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Serves as the first point of contact for visitors, citizens, employees, and leaders of the City of Starkville's Sanitation and Environmental Services Department.
- Provides quality customer service ensuring a positive public image compliant with the City of Starkville's Code of Conduct.
- Performs as telephone receptionist of inbound and outbound calls to include answering, resolving, transferring/conferencing, and messaging.
- Performs data entry and word processing tasks for record keeping, retrieval, reporting, and dissemination.
- Maintains proficient knowledge of social media outlets and uses them to promote services and happenings within the Department.
- Executes general assignments and special projects to include coordinating and setting up for Departmental meetings, programs, and events.
- Works collaboratively with members of Keep Starkville Beautiful.
- Assists with and/or performs other duties as assigned. NOTE: Location of work may vary based on the Department's needs and at its discretion.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of:
- Customer Service: Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including a desire to help customers regardless of their circumstance.
- Confidentiality: Methods and techniques of the proper handling and precautions for classified, confidential, and sensitive information.
- English Language: The structure and content of the English language, including the meaning of words, and grammar.
- Office Systems: Administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing systems and filing and records management systems.
- Office Software: Current word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database programs used by the City; particularly, the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Industry Software: Computer understanding sufficient to learn database programs and other software, such as, Kronos and Verizon Network Fleet.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possesses one year experience in an administrative or clerical role within a municipality or Mississippi State Government Organization.
- Proven history with digital media or other means of working with graphics very creatively.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License and acceptable MVR.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work is performed in an office environment and involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions. Work requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, and carrying items over twenty-five (25) pounds such as boxes, supplies, etc. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary work. Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination with or without accommodation.
