Position Type: Secretarial/Clerical/Secretary - Year-round Date Posted: 8/1/2025 Location: SAU #61 Office Date Available: ASAP SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT #61 FARMINGTON, NH POSITION DESCRIPTIONSPECIAL EDUCATION ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Superintendent and Director of Student Services, performs all duties relating to administrative support of Sepcial Education in SAU #61. Maintains files for coded students, responds to inquiries regarding Special Education procedures, rules and regulations, coordinates transportation, assists the Director with clerical support for placements, legal proceedings, and other case related matters. Provides clerical and secretarial support of the above functions. SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Orders Special Education supplies.
- Update Special Education student activity files.
- Maintain appropriate State forms and file with State in a timely manner (CAT aide, 402, etc.).
- Type letters and notices to parents of Special Education students.
- Verify computer statistics from State.
- Maintain liasison with Special Education SPEDIS Consultant.
- Assist as necessary in completing Special Education paperwork.
- Coordinate & schedule transportation for Sepcial Education.
- Perform computer related Special Education functions.
- Record meetings fo Special Education meeting as required.
- Prepare minutes of the above.
- Review all in-coming paperwork on Special Education for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain files and rosters.
- Assist bus coordinator in setting up special education transportation.
- Coordinate the set up of Childfind activities.
- Attend conferences/seminars as necessary to keep abreast of current procedures.
- Schedule meetings, appointments, and interviews relating to Special Education.
- Process and verify Special Education billing for bookkeepers.
- In the temporary absence of receiptionist, fill in for her.
- Duties & responsibilities as assigned by Superintendent and Director of Student Services.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a highly skilled, articulate person capable of dealing with sometimes emotional and always sensitive issues. Good clerical skills and a well-organized approach is a must. This person deals with highly confidential material as a matter of routine. Respect for the confidentiality from both a legal and a personal viewpoint is critical. A pleasant disposition, flexibility and experience dealing with parents, one-on-one, are pluses. A strong commitment to detail is expected. A background and/or education/experience in clerical and secretarial details are highly desirable.
