Description ESSYI Adirondacks Associate Director Summer 2025: July 20-25Description The Environmental Studies Summer Youth Institute seeks an Associate Director for our immersive two-week college-level program for high school juniors and seniors. The Associate Director will play a crucial role in delivering our transformative educational experience from July 20-25, 2025, both on campus and during a 4-day camping trip to the Adirondacks. The ideal candidate will guide field trips for student projects while collaborating with the Director on curriculum and logistics. Key responsibilities include managing on-site operations, supervising the campsite, providing daily oversight of college-student staff, addressing major student concerns, and supporting staff with student management. Qualified applicants must have experience in outdoor/experiential education settings and working with high school students. Additional requirements include staff supervision abilities, skills in leading educational sessions and team-building activities, excellent communication and problem-solving capabilities, and competence in responding to health and safety issues in backcountry environments. Preference given to candidates with Adirondack familiarity, teaching experience, and wilderness first-aid certification. Qualifications Required Qualifications • Experience in outdoor, experiential, or adventure education settings • Experience with high school students • Ability to supervise and manage college-student staff • Lead or co-lead educational sessions and team building • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills • Ability to respond to student health and safety in a backcountry setting • Basic first-aid certification Preferred Qualifications • Familiarity with the Adirondacks • College or high school teaching experience • Wilderness first-aid certification
