Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Addictions Counselors are experienced in applying client Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) techniques within the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) will enable CPEP to more successfully identify potential substance use problems among patients.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care and effectively respond to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties of an Addictions Counselor may include the following but are not limited to:

* Screen Patients - identify patients who need further assessment or treatment for substance use disorders.

* Offer Brief Intervention - Single session or multiple sessions of motivational discussion within the time constraints and regulations of the emergency service (CPEP) area.

* Make Referrals to Treatment - Referral to specialized treatment is provided to patients/families identified as needing more extensive treatment than offered by the SBIRT program.

* Provide Consultation, Advice & Instruction - Offer guidance and feedback to faculty, staff and residents pertaining to SBIRT process, community resources and supports.

* Maintain Up-to-Date Knowledge - Participate in County meetings pertaining to addiction and actively report community resource information, new programs/services and the like to faculty, staff and others within the hospital serving interfacing with patients with addictions.

* Ensure Quality - Monitor that addiction measures are completed and tracked, i.e. CORE measures and OMH regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Required: Credentialed as an alcoholism and substance abuse counselor (CASAC) within NYS or a Master's in Social work. At least one year or more experience in Alcohol Substance Abuse Counseling.

Preferred: Previous experience in a medical setting.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

* Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*

* Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.

* Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*

* Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.

* Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

* The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $59,160 - $72,165 Base Location

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,087 for location,

Some positions offer shift differentials for Night ($3,700) & Evening ($2,500) as well as $575 for inconvenience for positions not on day shift. Please visit these links to learn more.
