Park Ranger/Conservation Specialist Job Opening

ADAMS COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD

DESCRIPTION: Permanent full-time position under the general supervision of the Director and located at Lake Icaria Recreation Area, Corning, IA. Varying responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Patrol campgrounds, collect camping receipts, and assist with deposits.
  • Work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • On-site communication with Camp Hosts.
  • Maintain cabins, cottages, and restrooms; pick up trash around park areas.
  • Develop, plan, and present environmental programs.
  • Perform routine maintenance of park areas, facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Attain Pesticide Applicators License within 6 months.
  • Spray weeds and invasive brush in park and wildlife areas.
  • Attain S130/190 prescribed fire certification and assist with prescribed burns within park areas.
  • Attain Hunter Education Instructor Certification and coordinate Adams County Hunter Education program.
  • Work with maintenance staff to perform plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, and grounds keeping duties.
  • Operate skid-steer, tractor, mowers, light equipment, and power tools.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Supervise seasonal employees and volunteers as needed.
  • Required to live in provided housing at Lake Icaria.
  • Previous Iowa Law Enforcement Certification considered, but not required.
  • If not previously certified, successful applicant will be employed for a minimum of 3 years before possibly being sent through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (depending upon applicant).
  • Permanent employment conditional upon successful completion of pre-employment physical/testing and six-month probationary period.
  • Required to sign a 4-year prorated ILEA training reimbursement agreement if not a certified peace officer prior to hire and only if sent through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

    • QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements include graduation from an accredited four-year college in a related field or graduation from a two-year college in a related field plus two years of practical experience or significant years of experience in a related field.

    SALARY: $45,000 - $50,000 (starting salary depending on experience and qualifications) plus housing, utilities, and other standard county benefits, including health insurance.
