Plans special events. Proposes and develops plans for crafts, library, gym, salon and other areas as assigned. Develops and/or provides input for policies and procedures for the area of responsibility subject to approval by a higher-level treatment position. Prepares and presents updates for communication meetings. Collaborates with and updates staff at all levels on activities.Attends conferences and trainings to stay up to date with evidence based practices. Attends and participates in the quarterly programs communication meetings. Attends weekly Activity Specialist communication meetings. Prepare budget estimates for institutional activity needs to submit to the direct Supervisor for approval. Conducts individual or group sessions. Intervene and discuss observed behavior with residents. Interacts with incarcerated individuals considering Gender Responsivity, Trauma Informed Care, Core Correctional practices, and Motivational Interviewing. Interview, hire and supervise resident workers.Hours for this position will be:10 hour days working Saturday-TuesdayDays off: Wednesday/Thursday/FridayMinimum Qualification RequirementsGraduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in art, the behavioral/social sciences, industrial therapy, music, occupational therapy, physical education, recreation, rehabilitation, therapeutic recreation, or other closely related fields and experience equal to two years of full-time professional work in an activities program;ORan equivalent combination of graduate education in one of the above fields and professional qualifying experience substituting a maximum of thirty semester hours for one year of the required experience;ORqualifying experience may be substituted for the required education in any equivalent combination on the basis of one year of experience for each thirty-semester hours (or equivalent) of education to a maximum of four years;ORemployees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to eighteen months of full-time work as an Activities Specialist 1.For additional information, please click on this link to view the job description.
