Activities Director (Healthcare)

Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct resident-centered activities for the facility. Keep current with federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards. Ensure effective communication among employees at all levels, residents, families, support personnel, government agencies, and the public to meet the needs and interests of residents, the community, and the facility.

Participate in community planning related to the facility's interests and residents' needs. Assist in facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies, review and develop correction plans for activity deficiencies, and provide reports to the Administrator. Attend regular meetings including staff, department heads, quality improvement, safety, marketing, and resident councils.

Support the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee in developing and implementing corrective actions for quality deficiencies. Participate in discharge planning, develop and implement activity care plans, and conduct resident assessments. Arrange transportation for residents as needed for outings, appointments, or discharges.

Develop a monthly activity schedule that includes outings, group activities, and in-room activities for bed-bound or isolated residents. Encourage resident participation in hobbies, crafts, and reading, providing materials such as Braille or audio books as necessary. Ensure all activity notes are detailed and reflect the services provided and resident responses.

Supervisory responsibilities include assisting in managing the activity staff and overseeing their work.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; preferred one year of experience in a long-term care facility.
  • Ability to read technical procedures, policy manuals, and effectively communicate with management and staff.
  • Proficiency in applying mathematical concepts and solving practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in various formats.
  • Activity Director certification required.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, and hearing.
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Good vision and focus adjustment capabilities.

Work Environment:

Typically low to moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities. Duties may be reassigned or duties changed as needed.
