Acoustic Analysist - Level 1 - Saltwater : Job Details

We are currently recruiting for an Active Acoustic Data Analyst to assist the Ecosystems Survey Branch (ESB) with active-acoustic data analysis and/or communication of analyses and results to inform fisheries science and management.This will be a full-time position. Work will be performed on-site at a Northeast Fisheries Science Center, as well as aboard research vessels in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean, or remotely in coordination with the COR and Project Lead. The contract has a one-year base period and will have up to three (3) 12-month option periods. Duties:

Assist with active-acoustic data analysis on data collected by the NEFSC and/or academic, governmental, and industry partners.

Assist with managing and organizing active-acoustic data collected by the NEFSC and or academic, governmental, and industry partners.

Assist with collating and managing supplemental data (e.g., oceanographic and biological) collected by the NEFSC and or academic, governmental, and industry partners.

Assist with collating and managing metadata from data collected by the NEFSC and or academic, governmental, and industry partners.

Assist with preparing data for analysis using advanced analytical methods such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other analytical techniques.

Assist with report, manuscript, and presentation preparation.

Communicate analyses and results at scientific conferences and meetings with academic, governmental, and industry partners through presentations, posters, or other digital media.

Opportunities to perform tasks on sea-going vessels may be available. If feasible and warranted,

The contractor shall participate on research cruises when acoustic data management is required at sea.

The contractor shall serve as a member of the scientific party standing watch for up to 12 hours per day when acoustic data management is required at sea.

The contractor shall assist with general shipboard sampling activities, organization, and clean-up.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in the sciences or computer science, or equivalent work experience of at least three years.
• Proficient with custom-written and commercially-available data analysis software.
• Experience with programming in open-source computer software, such as Python 3, Perl, and R.
• Significant experience with post-processing active-acoustic data.
• Proficient with Echoview post-processing software.
• Current MS Office skills.
• If sea-going tasks are feasible and warranted:
• Meet OMAO health criteria for sea duty on NOAA vessels. Information located at:
• Capable of working at sea for extended periods (trips range from 5 to 17 consecutive days at sea).
• Hold a valid driver's license with the ability to operate a Federal motor vehicle.
• Medical documentation indicating a passed TB test (PPD) within the past 12 months.
