This position is assigned to the Finance Department for the District Health Department. The Finance Department is responsible for performing functions that are specific and broad in scope in the conduct of financial affairs in a manner required by North Carolina law and in accordance with generally accepted practice, efficient and prudent accounting principles. The primary purpose of the employee in this position is to function as the Purchasing Agent. This position collects and reviews purchase requisitions after being approved by the Supervisor, obtains the best prices from vendors, coordinates with the Finance Officer in coding purchases to correct line items in the budget, and processes orders created by purchase order and signed by the Finance Officer. This position follows up on back orders, maintains the purchase order files, and the inventory of office supplies. This position is responsible for receiving merchandise, matching purchase orders as pulled and checked against the packing slip to ensure merchandise received is accurate. The role of this position is to maintain a proper level of supplies, to reorder as needed, and to stock those supplies as needed. This position also serves as back-up to the Payroll Clerk, including but not limited to Payroll reporting and any other duties necessary to perform the duties in the absence of the Payroll Clerk, as assigned by the Finance Officer. This position will also be responsible for any additional duties that are assigned by the Finance Officer.
Minimum Education And Experience: Graduation from a high school including or supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting and three years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work in an accounting office; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Completion of a one or two-year business course in an accredited community college or business school, including or supplemented by basic courses in bookkeeping or accounting, may be substituted for two and three years of the required experience, respectively.)
