Position Overview: The Accounting Manager will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, and support for budget planning. This role requires strong accounting and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with leadership, plant management, and external auditors. The Accounting Manager will report directly to the President and support initiatives for financial planning, operational efficiency, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and ensure the accuracy of general ledger accounts and reconcile account balances monthly.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments for month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company accounting policies.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
  • Collaborate with operational managers to ensure alignment of departmental budgets with overall company objectives.
  • Track and analyze budget-to-actual variances and provide actionable insights to senior management.

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management

  • Reconcile and manage inventory accounts and perform cycle count audits.
  • Analyze production costs and link operational metrics to financial performance.
  • Conduct cost variance analysis, including material, labor, and overhead variances.
  • Support operational efficiency initiatives by working with plant operations to drive cost-saving opportunities.

Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and policies to mitigate financial risks.
  • Support internal and external audits, including coordination with auditors and preparation of audit deliverables.
  • Participate in ongoing reviews and audits of internal control procedures.

Accounts Payable/Receivable Support

  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions to ensure proper coding, timely payments, and accurate postings.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and collection efforts to ensure timely receipt of payments.

Operational Support

  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reports as requested by plant managers, and divisional leadership.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, production, and procurement, to ensure alignment on financial goals.
Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel (advanced level required), and financial reporting tools. Proficiency with ERP systems is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and deliver actionable insights.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to maintain high attention to detail and accuracy in all financial reporting and reconciliation tasks.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly communicate financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team and support multiple plant locations.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in operational leadership and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of taxes, job costing, and sales tax compliance.
  • Familiarity with J.P. Morgan systems, G/L mapping, and insurance contracts.

Travel Requirements: This position requires occasional travel (up to 5%) to our plant locations in Indiana, Arizona, and California to support audits, reviews, and on-site financial projects.
