Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to join our team in New York, NY. This hybrid role requires two days per week in the office and offers an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in our financial operations. The Accounting Manager will report directly to the Director of Finance and oversee critical accounting functions, including ownership of accounting records, reconciliations, taxes and compliance, as well as ad hoc duties as needed. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in accounting, with experience in QuickBooks and, ideally, familiarity with Shopify. Experience in consumer goods or manufacturing is highly preferred. This candidate will be self-sufficient and capable of identifying and addressing accounting challenges with sound judgment and minimal direction, while also knowing when to escalate issues appropriately. This role requires someone who is comfortable working independently, takes initiative, and can navigate ambiguity with confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reconcile cash accounts, prepaid expenses, inventory, fixed assets, accounts payable, deferred revenue, and accrued expenses as part of the month-end closing process
• Identify and resolve discrepancies promptly to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Tax and Regulatory Compliance:

• Handle sales and use tax filings, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
• Assist in the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
• Perform ad hoc financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and operational efficiency.

Accounts Payable Management:

• Oversee accounts payable operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices.
• Respond to vendor communications promptly to address inquiries and maintain positive relationships.
• Track purchase order deposits to ensure accurate and timely application to invoices.
• Work closely with the Director of Finance to make informed payment decisions on a weekly basis.
• Draft payment batches in compliance with company policies and for approval by the Director of Finance.
• Supervise and mentor the bookkeeper, providing guidance and support for day-to-day tasks.
• Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment.
• Utilize QuickBooks to manage and maintain financial records.
• Leverage Shopify to support financial tracking related to e-commerce operations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel
• Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, preferably within the consumer goods or manufacturing industry.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop is required; experience with Shopify is a plus.
• Solution oriented mindset and ability to identify problems and resolve them.
• Strong understanding of accounts payable processes and vendor management.
• Demonstrated experience in month-end close activities and account reconciliations.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for managing vendor relationships and team collaboration.
• Self-Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment.
