Job SummaryThe Accounting Manager at Avalon Palm Springs Hotel and Ingleside Estate is responsible for leading the financial operations of both properties, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and efficiency in all accounting functions. This role manages areas including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Income Audit, Payroll, and General Ledger while fostering a collaborative environment that supports department leaders and drives financial performance. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving in a dynamic hospitality setting.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Bank Reconciliations, and Income Audit.
- Oversee guest billing, chargebacks, account maintenance, and ensure timely resolution of guest inquiries.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of biweekly payroll using ADP, maintaining compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Reconcile all hotel bank accounts monthly and monitor cash handling processes, deposits, and float management.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations in support of timely month-end closing and accurate financial statements.
- Conduct financial reviews with department heads and support budget development and forecast updates.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff; ensure training, accountability, and strong internal communication.
- Enforce compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies, including tax reporting (TOT, sales tax, 1099s).
- Lead coordination for internal and external audits by preparing and organizing required documentation.
- Participate in leadership meetings and collaborate cross-functionally to support operational and financial performance.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance financial accuracy, reporting, and efficiency.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 3-5 years of progressive hospitality accounting experience; boutique or luxury hotel background preferred.
- Experience managing financials for multi-property operations is a plus.
Skills/Specialized Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP and hotel accounting standards.
- Proficiency with Sun Systems, ProfitSword, HMS, Craftable, and ADP.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times to handle files or supplies.
- Occasional walking between departments and across hotel properties.
- Manual dexterity needed to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, and general office equipment.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed to meet deadlines, including occasional weekends or holidays.
