Description The University of West Alabama is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Academic Systems Technician to support the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of academic technologies. This position provides frontline technical assistance for systems such as the university's Learning Management System (LMS), academic scheduling tools, online evaluation platforms, and faculty development systems. The Academic Systems Technician works closely with IT staff, faculty, and academic administrators to ensure smooth functioning and support of instructional technologies that enhance teaching and learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support for academic platforms such as Blackboard, Ad Astra, Interfolio.
- Respond to help tickets, troubleshoot user issues, and document resolutions in the university's IT service management system.
- Assist in user account provisioning, access management, and system configuration.
- Conduct routine system checks and basic maintenance tasks to ensure the uptime and reliability of academic platforms.
- Support training efforts for faculty and staff through documentation, workshops, or one-on-one sessions.
- Assist in generating usage reports and identifying areas for process improvement.
- Collaborate with instructional designers, the registrar's office, and academic departments to support system-integrated workflows.
- Participate in projects related to the adoption or enhancement of academic technologies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Education Technology, or a related field.
- One year of experience supporting IT systems, preferably in an academic environment.
- Basic understanding of learning management systems and academic scheduling tools.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based platforms.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and troubleshoot problems independently.
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Experience supporting Blackboard, Ad Astra, Interfolio.
- Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Ellucian Colleague) or integration tools (e.g., Ethos, LTI, APIs).
