The Academic Advisor position is responsible to provide accurate and timely advising services and information to all Moody students, faculty and staff; maintain a comprehensive system of student files - in the Academic Records office as well as in computerized format; and function as an integral part of a customer-service oriented team. Essential Functions
- Provide accurate, proactive, and timely academic advising.
- Maintain electronic and physical files for all students in accordance with industry and MBI standards.
- Advise all students as needed in regard to their questions regarding course selections and program requirements during all registration periods.
- Evaluate all transfer credits (including college credits, (AP) Advanced Placement exams, (CLEP) College Level Examination Program exams and (IB) International Baccalaureate credits), enter transfer credits into the student's record and provide timely reports to the student.
- Evaluate student requests for change of degree program and/or emphases.
- Conduct audit reviews for returning former students, updating their graduation audit as needed, and inform them of their new graduation date.
- Approve degree completion plans for former students and diploma graduates.
- Provide statistical data for preparation of reports pertaining to the Registrar's office.
- Audit records of undergraduate and graduate degree students during the semester one year prior to their scheduled graduation, determine those eligible for graduation, and produce accurate course completion information based on the student's target graduation date.
- Evaluate students' Application for Graduation, verify student's intent to participate in commencement ceremonies.
- Provide accurate lists of potential graduates to the Registrar at least eight weeks before graduation.
- Assist other MBI staff in the annual revision process of the academic catalog, as well as in the vetting of course schedules, curriculum changes, and Academic Requirements Reports.
- Assist with Chicago Commencements in May each year.
- Confer degrees for students who have successfully completed their program
- Perform related and special duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- Depth of knowledge in academic advising.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Proactive work ethic and exceptional organizational skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite
- Ability to problem solve and think critically.
- Able to work in the US legally without sponsorship.
Preferred Requirements
- Moody Bible Institute or Moody Theological Seminary graduate.
- Two or more years of Registrar's office/Student Services experience.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Intercultural competency.
- Experience with Oracle Campus Solutions student data systems.
