Responsibilities:

Primary - The primary function of the Education Advisor is to provide academic advising to education students in our paraprofessional education track as well as other education majors.

  • Provide individual advisement for the selection of courses appropriate to each students academic profile, major, and career interests and catalog curriculum requirements for majors, minors and prospective students (enrolled, reentry, and prospective).
  • Advise and assist new, transfer and reentry students throughout the year in one to one appointments or at registration programs.
  • Coordination of academic services for students enrolled in programs such as Academic Coaching, Athletic Advising, ROTC, Study Abroad, etc.
  • Notify students of academic and program deficiencies.
  • Assist students with drop/add, withdrawal, and schedule changes.
  • Communicate degree requirements to students.
  • Act as a resource person for information about administrative offices and committees such as Admissions, Financial Aid, CAGAS, the Registrars Office, and others.
  • Serve as a resource person for information about available student services and refer students to other appropriate persons or offices.
  • Maintain and keep current academic records and notes on all advisees.
  • Assist students in determining the transferability of courses taken at other institutions when possible.
  • Maintain regular and extensive correspondence with students regarding their respective programs of study.
  • Provide preliminary personal and/or career counseling and referral to other University support resources when appropriate.
  • Check and approve all graduation applications for advisees and verify the completion of program requirements.
  • Develop and update individualized academic plans for each student.
  • Communicate with advisors from other teacher education programs.

  • Assist chair/director in determining class/section needs in planning the schedule of offerings.
  • Meet with prospective students and parents.
  • Process appropriate substitutions, special permissions, and waivers as approved or directed by the chair/director.
  • Serve as a resource to assist in the development and refinement of curriculum requirements for assisted department/school.
  • Assist with student teaching applications.
  • Ensure students are meeting requirements to be accepted into the teacher education program and meeting requirements to be licensed in the State of Illinois.
  • This position will require the individuals work hours to include some evening and weekend hours to accommodate the work schedules of our paraprofessional students.

SALARY: $4,195 per month. 9-month, 100% appointment.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned Masters degree
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Ability to work well with people
  • Strong organizational and technology skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience as an academic advisor
  • Previous experience in an education related field
