Job Description: Academic Advisors for the Online Division of Champlain College (CCO) support adult students as they work to achieve important life and career outcomes through higher education. From our home campus in Burlington, Vermont, and in partnership with our Champlain community, advisors offer one-on-one support for non-degree, certificate, undergraduate, and graduate students pursuing online education. CCO Academic Advisors work with students in one or more academic program areas to design schedules that best align academic offerings with each student's personal and professional goals. They help orient students to CCO's online learning model and apply knowledge of college catalog policies, standard operating procedures, and college resources to coach students through to graduation. The ideal candidate brings strong coaching and communication skills, with the ability to manage a large student caseload while maintaining personalized support. This role requires someone who can independently navigate multiple systems, collaborate effectively with campus partners, and bring enthusiasm and creativity to supporting adult learners on their educational journey. Key Responsibilities: Student Caseload Management
  • Proactively advise a caseload of 200+ degree and certificate-seeking adult online students from acceptance to completion
  • Welcome, enroll, and orient new students while facilitating goal setting and program mapping
  • Engage in active advising throughout the student journey to build positive relationships, encourage reflection, inform about resources, and develop student self-advocacy
  • Prioritize student advising meetings, conduct progress outreach, and co-host drop-in hours with fellow advisors
Student Success & Support
  • Use an appreciative, strengths-based approach to problem-solving with students
  • Support student collaboration with faculty and partner departments
  • Celebrate student success by noticing milestones and helping with campus events
  • Bring creativity, enthusiasm, and a readiness for fun to student interactions
Advising Team Responsibilities
  • Independently maintain the integrity of the academic record across multiple systems
  • Navigate and update information in system of record, learning management system, and CRM
  • Review and complete class registration for each student three times yearly (fall, spring, summer)
  • Work collaboratively with Academic Program Directors and partner units to represent student needs
Mission & Program Support
  • Uphold and promote the CCO mission with focus on program completion and reduction of student debt
  • Deliver quality experiences that emphasize student empowerment
  • Collaborate respectfully with the advising team to inform decisions and interactions that best serve students
Requirements: Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
  • Over one year of higher education experience, or two years of professional experience
Essential Skills:
  • Goal setting and motivational coaching expertise
  • Academic success counseling capabilities
  • Student program administration and orientation experience
  • Investigative thinking and systems navigation abilities
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Active listening and note-taking proficiency

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team goals
Additional Information: Work Arrangement:
  • Full-time (37.5 hours/week) fully remote position.
  • Required to be available for real-time collaboration with the on-campus team during normal business hours of Monday - Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm ET
  • Must maintain a dedicated workspace free from distractions that supports productive work and professional virtual collaboration
  • Expected to perform work within the contiguous United States. Remote work outside of this area, including in Alaska, Hawaii, or internationally, is not permitted
  • Occasional evening or weekend on-call hours may be required for student events such as commencement.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Annual Salary: $45,000 - $48,000
