Overview

Alera Group is seeking a Managing Director - Mid-Atlantic Region to join their team.

The Managing Director will be accountable for leading the Regional Directors (RD), Managing Partners (MP), Office Leaders within the region, and a team of direct and dotted line reports that includes VP Sales Development; VP of Finance, VP of Ops; SVP of EB, VP of P&C and Marketing Director.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and execute on opportunities within the region to collaborate between offices on sales and operations.
  • Drive change through region with thoughtful and effective communication strategies.
  • Foster connections by connecting people who can help each other solve problems and create opportunities for our clients and each other.
  • Manage workflows and adopt operational models that increase efficiency within offices and the region.
  • Manage Alera Group priorities and help facilitate at the office level.
  • Support and deploy Alera shared services including Practice Leader initiatives, Finance/Accounting, Technology (systems, applications, data), Human Resources, Legal, and Marketing.
  • Prospect acquisition targets in conjunction with the M&A Team.
  • Along with Regional staff, fully responsible for the post close integration of newly acquired offices within the region.
  • Lead MP roundtable discussions and partner with other MDs to share ideas, improve consistency of services, offerings, and plan for emerging trends.
  • Conduit to organize regional work groups.
  • Share Alera communications and resources to region.

  • Region – Coaches MPs giving them guidance and feedback to maximize performance. Supports them in the development of their team's capabilities and delivering their objectives. Improves succession strategy by recognizing and developing key contributors and by networking and recruiting effectively to fill the talent pipeline. Seeks diverse opinions and consults with others. Conducts meaningful and collaborative office level reviews of their revenue, operational, and financial results against benchmark comparisons recognizing excellent performance as well as problem solving and correcting lower performance.
  • MD Staff Only – Makes effective use of delegation to develop and empower regional staff. Conducts ongoing, meaningful, and collaborative performance reviews to appropriately recognize and reward staff for excellent performance as well as manage out poor performance.

Innovation – Be willing to take risks and to consider new and untested approaches. Look at issues from a fresh viewpoint; can look at old methods in new, creative ways; adapts to change, take risks, and explores the unknown.

Achieving Results – Emphasizes office, regional, and Alera Group results by working closely with MPs on short, mid-range, and strategies related to the region and its offices' budget and key accountabilities. Flexible and capable of adapting to new goals through concrete, practical problem solving, and working side by side with others.

Qualifications

Education

Candidates will be required to have a bachelor's degree in business or related disciplines such as finance, marketing, operations, accounting, or related degree. A graduate degree or MBA is not required but would be helpful. Professional certifications within the employee benefit, property and casualty, wealth management, and/or human resources field would be important. Proficient in MS Office Suite, with strong Excel skills.
