Under supervision of the Communications Manager and Supervisors, performs highly responsible, specialized work involving receiving, screening and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls through the communications system. Uses the emergency 911 computer systems and dispatches Police, Fire and EMS vehicles/personnel to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance based on zone assignment and availability. Dispatches utility and street crews as necessary. Accurately and efficiently initiates appropriate City, County, State and Federal police, fire and medical assistance based on zone assignment and availability. Interprets policies, procedures and standards and applies to each unique set of circumstances. Works within the scope of established laws, rules, regulations and procedures of the Police Department. Exercises considerable judgment and initiative when required. Ability to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays. Performs related work as directed.
