Position Summary The role of the Parent Organizer is to support the work of parent organizing in developing parent power and amplifying parent voice on critical school reform issues affecting Caliber ChangeMakers Academy, Caliber Beta Academy and through connections with the Contra Costa County Chart Coalition (5C), other similar schools in Contra Costa County. Caliber Beta Academy and other similar charter schools, serving historically and educationally underserved communities of color, face various public and political obstacles, mainly focused on misconceptions about who we are, whom we serve, and why we exist. The role of the Parent Organizer is to invite, organize, train, and support interested parents and parent leaders on ways they can address, support, and make their voices heard on critical issues related to their children's education. Every student deserves accessible, high-quality public school options in their community. The Parent Organizer will train parent leaders in planning and running meetings and sharing their stories with others (such as elected officials and community leaders). The Parent Organizer will work closely with and collaborate with parent organizers and other parents from schools in Contra Costa and organizations working to support and amplify parent power and parent voice. Primary Responsibilities:
- Represent Caliber Public Schools on the 5C Family Leadership Team (FLT)
- Invite, cultivate, and build a team of Caliber Beta and Caliber CMA parent leaders from across the schools to participate in advocacy events.
- Act as a liaison with Caliber Beta and CMA leadership and staff for organizing advocacy events.
- Develop staff capacity to work with parent leaders directly.
- Provide training and leadership development opportunities for parent leaders.
- Schedule and host parent group meetings and 1:1 meetings with parents to build relationships and prepare for upcoming events, trainings, or community engagement activities.
- Support and prepare parent leaders to conduct regular meetings with elected officials and influential community members
- Work with Caliber parent leaders in preparation for charter renewal meetings and other update meetings with Caliber's charter authorizers.
- Work with Caliber Beta parent leaders to support other organized advocacy efforts for charter schools in Contra Costa County that elevate parent voices in charter hearings and other advocacy events.
- Build relationships with key community members and leaders to support Caliber Beta in the community.
Qualifications Required Experience
- Related experience in community-based organizing or political/civic engagement
- Experience working in a public school environment (preferably charter schools)
- Experience working with students and families from historically underserved communities

- Ability to quickly build trusting relationships with a broad set of people, including parents, external stakeholders, school staff, and teammates
- Ability to self-direct and prioritize among competing goals, exhibit flexibility and drive results in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Adept at thinking strategically, translating plans into action, and exhibiting excellent judgment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively work with all members of the ethnically and socio-economically diverse community we serve
- Conversational Spanish ability strongly preferred
Travel and time:
- This position requires an average of 10-15 hours / week. Some weeks will require more than fifteen hours and some will require less than fifteen hours.
- Some travel is required for county-wide events, such as workshops, meetings, candidate forums, and other collaboration with other charter schools.
- While this work will not happen exclusively outside of school hours, the majority of time will be spent in the afternoons and evenings, when parents are most available to meet.
