We are seeking a newly graduated PhD who is a creative experimental quantum scientist to help us grow new projects and mature existing ones. As a member of our team, you'll contribute to research that tackles the problems of designing, controlling, and scaling solid-state qubit systems. You will join our hardworking team of quantum scientists passionate about building new and exciting solutions to expand the state-of-the-art in quantum science.

Responsibilities
  • Propose and lead independent research projects focusing on novel quantum devices, controls, or characterization techniques.
  • Work collaboratively with other APL staff to identify emerging challenges with quantum solutions.
  • Support ongoing programs in quantum information science by making immediate contributions to efforts developing quantum characterization, control, and error correction strategies in solid-state qubit systems.
Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications if you...

  • Have a PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Have experience with superconducting, semiconducting, or related quantum technologies.
  • Have research, accomplishments, and publications in the field of quantum information science.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Are willing to occasionally travel to sponsor sites, conferences, and workshops.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance. Eligibility requires U.S. citizenship.

You will go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have hands-on experimental experience with solid-state qubit design, RF control, quantum measurements, and/or dilution refrigerator operation.
  • Have knowledge and experience with implementing quantum noise characterization and error protection techniques in the lab.
  • Are experienced with test equipment control and data analysis in Python.
  • Have experience working closely with theorists.
  • Have experience with developing and/or implementing schemes for quantum error correction.
  • Have experience modeling multi-level, multi-qubit, and/or light-matter interactions.
  • Have a record of significant contributions on collaborative projects pursuing highly sophisticated objectives.
