Position Overview
Supervised by the Assistant Principal of Student Services, the Learning Specialist collaborates with teachers, acts as a family liaison, and instructs students with varying learning needs. The role involves supporting students academically and socially, analyzing data, and implementing strategies. Candidates must hold a current special education certification.
Core Competencies & Responsibilities
Provide instruction to support students with disabilities in the general education classroom.Collaborate with general education teachers to design inclusive services.Use push-in or pull-out models for direct and indirect services, targeting skills like sensory perception, language, cognition, and memory.Develop and modify curriculum and assessments aligned with IEP and 504 plans.Lead MTSS meetings, assess student needs, develop intervention plans, and ensure implementation.Engage students in rigorous, project-based, standards-aligned learning experiences.Support creation and implementation of FBA and BIP.Drive academic outcomes through data analysis and differentiated instruction.Plan and implement lessons using various instructional strategies.Utilize technology for instruction and communication.Attend IEP meetings ensuring SESIS compliance.Assess student progress and maintain accurate records.Collaborate with colleagues and participate in professional development.Foster positive relationships with families.Engage in reflective practice and professional growth.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- NY State teaching certification in Students with Disabilities
- Spanish proficiency (preferred)
- Appreciation for Classical liberal arts education (preferred)
