Job Summary:

Dr. Jamaspishvili is actively looking for students who will immediately be available to work on ongoing prostate cancer research projects in her lab. Dr. Jamaspishvili is conducting translational and clinical cancer research projects in collaboration with other clinical departments (hematology-oncology, urology, radiology) and disciplines (computer science, bioinformatics, epidemiology). The project title is: Digital tissue biomarker assessment for improved management of high-risk prostate cancer patients using image analysis and computer vision methods .

This highly collaborative project requires assembling a retrospective research cohort of SUNY Upstate patients diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer who progressed to recurrent, metastatic or castrate-resistant disease or presented with de novo metastasis in 2012-2020.The students should be enrolled in a graduate Medical, Health Sciences or Public Health program. They will perform a rigorous chart review and extract clinical and pathological information from the electronic medical record (EMR) system: EPIC and Co-Path. Students will have two mentors: Dr. Jamaspishvili, principal investigator (Department of Pathology) and Dr. Alina Basnet, co-investigator (Department of Hematology-Oncology) and will have the opportunity for exposure to cutting-edge translational and clinical research.

The job requires a part-time research commitment to be discussed with the mentor beforehand.

Required skills: patient chart review, advanced understanding of oncology, data curation and management using RedCap, data analysis and presentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a current student enrolled at Upstate Medical University and approved for financial aid through the Student Financial Aid office at Upstate.
