2023-2024 Federal Work Study - CHP Program Tutor - Upstate University Hospital : Job Details

Job Summary: 2-4 tutor positions are available starting for fall 2023 through summer 2024 for the Jump Start Your Health Career Program designed for high school students interested in health careers. Location The program will be based on the Upstate Medical University campus and will incorporate visits to teaching laboratories as relevant to the selected cases. Clinical tours will be included as feasible. Program Overview Jump Start Your Health Career uses complex and realistic patient cases as the basis for exploration of health care and health careers. Students will be divided into 4 groups of 4 for the small group work, guided by Upstate faculty and students. Through case explorations students will learn and practice the clinical reasoning process that guides the diagnostic and treatment process. Upstate clinicians, faculty and staff will provide interactive learning experiences in on-campus laboratories. General Program Goals Increase awareness of the wide range of health careers

• Increase knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and pathology
• Improve study skills
• Increase critical thinking
• Improve professional presentation skills

As a program tutor you will

• Guide learning as students explore complex cases
• Set up and facilitate hands on learning activities
• Evaluate program impact
• Learn more about other health professions
• Option to teach in your area of passion

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a current student enrolled at Upstate Medical University and approved for financial aid through the Student Financial Aid office at Upstate. Preferred Qualifications: Work Days: Saturdays: 9:00am - 2:30pm Dates: February 10 March 2, 9, 16, 23 April 6, 13 May 4, 11, 18 Compensation Options Federal work study or elective credit. Outside funding applications may provide other options.
