Construct, assemble, maintain, plan, lay-out, install, test and repair all types of boiler and auxiliary systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
Use appropriate hand and power tools to fit and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular products; have working knowledge of all types of pipe and tube systems, and various high pressure/temperature alloys; proficient in the use of bevellers, threaders and other end prep machines; cut or drill holes in walls to permit passage of pipes; select specified type and size of pipe; mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe; install valves, couplings and other fittings; disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe; erect necessary scaffolding; lift, position and secure materials and work pieces during installation; and install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications. Use appropriate hand and power tools to install all types of structural steel framework and supports of tube systems Inspect or repair boiler fittings such as safety valves, regulators, automatic control mechanisms, water columns, and auxiliary machines Understand rigging of heavy and light components Direct cleaning of boilers and boiler furnaces . Examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, or vats to locate defects, such as leaks, weak spots, or defective sections, so that they can be repaired . Install manholes, hand holes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges, or feed water connections in drums of water tube boilers, using hand tools . Position, align, and secure structural parts or related assemblies to boiler frames, tanks, or vats of pressure vessels, following blueprints, sketches, specifications, and/or plans . Install refractory bricks or other heat-resistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels . Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries Understand that no job is so important that your safety and that of your crew will be compromised Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional If needed, use your stop work authority until the issue is resolved . Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed . Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards . Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens) . Understand, support, and follow lockout tag out procedures Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as outlined in training . Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment . Use effective verbal and written communication skills Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately . Listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations giving full attention to what they are saying and take the time to understand the points being made, asking questions and providing feedback when appropriate . Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job . Provide on-the-job training and/or mentoring to helpers and laborers you are working with . Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards . Read and understand plans and specifications, including orthographic and isometric drawings Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions . With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications and plan, lay-out, install and/or repair all systems in accordance with those plans and specifications Understand all applicable boiler codes and pressure vessel codes
At least 4 years of experience working in the boilermaker craft or similar craft or a combination of experience and training, and a strong working knowledge of the Boilermaker Systems and craft. Must have a working knowledge of iron working techniques, pipe fitting techniques and methods for different types of boiler systems, steam lines, and pressure vessels. In addition, must have all necessary tools (see Boilermaker tool list). Understanding of all boiler and pressure vessel codes. Must be at least 18 years of age. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
